INTRODUCTION

Rui Messias - Founder of Legal Latin Advisors.
 
His extensive experience focuses on  the areas of Civil Litigation (including  Labour  and  Commercial Litigation),  with  experience  in the Civil Proceedings of  Angola  and Mozambique; Criminal  and Administrative Litigation; Compliance  in the areas of Money Laundering  and Anti-Corruption Laws – including the provision  of  training  both internally and to clients; Insolvency Law (including cross-border bankruptcies); Maritime Law; Intellectual Property Law.
 
He was  in-house  counsel  of the real estate group Xavier  de  Lima and  later  board  adviser  of the same  group.  He worked as an associate partner  at  Abreu  Advogados.

    - Legal counsel in matters related to construction, development, financing and real estate investment in business parks, logistics warehouses, residential buildings, hotels, offices, tourist complexes, shopping centers and social centers. - Advisor to several companies on corporate restructuring, statutory reforms, assistance to the board of directors and management, general meetings, directors' duties and liability, the execution of shareholders' agreements and capital increases and reductions. - Advisor in the governance of various companies and corporate groups, by preparing regulations for the General Meeting and the Board of Directors and by supporting the administration and management of various companies. - Advisor to major Spanish real estate developers on the whole process of real estate development, preparation and negotiation of contracts for the purchase and sale of property, rentals, as well as the building of legal structures for the purchase, sale, investment and management of real estate projects. - Advisor to various real estate developers on issues related to financing contracts for the advancement, purchase and development of real estate projects. - Advisor to a large French business group in carrying out real estate due diligence for the acquisition of several real estate units providing long-term care and health services to the elderly. - Advisor to various Spanish business groups in the preparation, negotiation, and execution of works contracts. - Carrying out urban due diligence, urban soil analysis, verifying authorisations and licences, analysing compliance with the requirements arising from applicable sector legislation.; - Coordination of a complex M&A operation between a Portuguese and American company belonging to a large American business group in the hazardous waste treatment and environmental remediation plans sector. - Co-author of the books "Direito Civil - Direito das Coisas (Civil Law - Law of Things)" and "Direito Civil - Direito Registral Imobiliário (Civil Law - Real Estate Registration Law)". - Publication of several articles in newspapers and magazines about third party funding.
